Incredible how many empty words this unnamed journalist have been able to put into that article. I’m sure that you have said much more interesting things in the interview and not all these marketing advertising words about the lenses. It is interesting to read about the lense element almost frozen and how well is survive in salty water, but not that the 600mm is one of the big white lenses, and so.
I’m also sure that most people reading CPN is very familiar with Canons lenses and cameras, so please Canon be a little more critical. (Sorry that this critic ending up on your blog Ole. You are at lease doing a better work here on your blog.)
And then it is fun to see that the journalist ends this article about camera gear, with quoting you saying that you need to distance you from the camera gear. I fully agree, but still a fun ending.
Thanks for sharing.
Great shot of the Owl. Taken with the 16-35. Did you dress up as a mouse for the owl to so close?
Sounds like Rasmus is one unhappy fellow..
Nice article about you and some of your work, Ole. Those 3 pictures that you included (or was it 4?) are amazing!! I was also wondering the same thing as Tov..
Keep up the good work!
Hi Ole Jørgen,
First, many thanks for sharing your impressions and experiences; they are very interesting.
Just a curiosity: with the 1Ds MkIII in salt water and the 7D in the snow, how do you clean/dry the cameras and lenses?
Best wishes
Hi tbarreno
I have just made video clips of 7D and snow and hope to write about in a blog within 2-3 weeks….
Great article. The included images were amazing too. I especially appreciate the comments on focusing on pictures instead of gear. Often times it is easy to focus too much on gear and forget that the important thing is taking quality pictures.
Looking forward to the 4th part to your 7D review on image quality. I’m very seriously considering picking one up and I’ve found your review very helpful thus far. Your focus testing with your dog was a great test and one of the best I’ve seen so far.
ENOUGH…… I’m sick and tired of reading your Articles. I want your Job.
How do i get it? Retiring any time soon? Hopefully i don’t have to learn Norwegian.
LOL Speed thats a funny reply..
Nice goody bag in the article, with I great images. The Owl must have been very hard to get:)

Come on, look at Ole. Bag opened, snow all over the $10.000.00 600mm f/4L IS USM. I don’t dare ask my Wife if i can buy one of those. Still working on the 300mm. Yes its Dust & Water resistant i know, but still…I would be looking over my shoulder all the time, too afraid some one would try to steal it, AND I would polish it every night….lol. I have to admit, he knows how to take the pictures. Oh did i mention Ole, not only do i want your job, i want the 600mm also.
Hi Ole,
Quick question: Any reason that you do not include the 800mm in your kit? Given you do wildlife photography, I’d think you would appreciate one for the extra reach.
Hi Isurus
If you look close you will see that it is a 800/5.6L that is in my bag, not the 600mm. For this assignment I used the 800mm, but usually I have the 600/4.0L with me. If I need a lighter lens I also can go for the 500/4, so my chosen long lens is very dependent of what I´m after.
Hi
I just read the CPN article.. The temperature in March was -300c??
Good thing you didn’t go there in the winter
Well look at that; it is the 800. I didn’t see it on your gear list on the side and just assumed you didn’t have one. Color me embarrassed.
what bag do you carry your 600mm in? also i am at a crossroads. i have the 1d IV, 300mm 2.8 is, and am deciding between the 500mm is and 600mm is. Which of those two would you choose if you had to choose one?
Hi Jason
The 500/4 is much easier for travelling, but the 600/4 (without the shade) fits in a “modified” LowePro Computrekker!
I´ve had both lenses and the 600/4 is in my opinion best, but the 500/4 is most useful on travels..
thanks for the response! i own the 600mm f/4 is as well…and i think i have a computrekker….so we’ll see what i can do.
I too was impressed by your resistance to -300C temperatures. Not only did you manage to scout out a place colder than absolute zero, but you survived! I am going to call up my old physics teachers and tell them they were all wrong!
Hi Ole
First of all congratulation for yor works. I’m really impressed and I cannon answer to the question: how it’s possible to shoot a Great Grey Owl with a 16mm? Wonderful shot.
I would like to ask some info about your Bag.
I’ve bought a 300 2.8 IS and now it’s time to change my photo bag.
I’ve the following equipment 7D / 300 2.8 / 2 Teleconverter / 70-200 2.8 / 24-105 / 10-20.
Do you think that a Lowepro trekker could be a good choose.
I need a bag tha could be put in airplane cabin.
P.s. What do you think about the HPRC 3500? Could be good for extreme wheater? It’s able to carry like a standard bagback in your opinion (and to carry my equipment?
Thanks a lot for your time
Best Regard
Daniele
