The big Question

Sunset in Valdres, Norway
After a heavy snowfall and some cold clear weather I’ve been shooting some magical winter landscapes not far from home. During the Christmas break I have also been thinking about what this web site should provide. As a photographer I am much more interested in creating pictures than testing camera equipment. My question for you: Do you only want field reviews of Canon cameras and equipment, or do you want information about how to use your equipment for creating better pictures?
I’ve already started taking some HD-video clips on location to show “behind the scenes” and I also talk about how I take pictures in different settings. Is this information interesting and informative? Will this just be a waste of time producing video tutorials and “How to do” articles?
I appreciate all of your comments!

Others do boring reviews. Yours of the 7D is one, if not, the best out there. I too am looking forward to the next few parts. How many can boast of a brand new camera covered in snow and dripping wet with L lens attached.
If you would like to share with us your behind the scenes, I believe, many will welcome it(including me).
Superb website, keep em coming!

“Do you only want field reviews of Canon cameras and equipment, or do you want information about how to use your equipment for creating better pictures?”
Both, please! As a new owner of a 7D, I am thrilled to have found your site. I am still familiarizing myself with all its options and settings, so “how to” articles and videos would be very helpful to me.
Keep up the good work.
Please do both!
You have good mix and quality of you work.

I’m with CB. I would like both. Some of the best reviews I’ve come across have been from people using their gear in real world situations. I think seeing the results (the pictures) and hearing about how and why you got them would be helpful to a lot of people. I’d also be interested in seeing how you shoot video with the SLR.
Also, as a soon to be owner of a 7D, I too can’t wait to read the rest of your review.
Would love the How To’s please.
Your work is much appreciated.
Having just discovered your site through the posting of your extreme weather review of the 7D (which convinced me to head outside in a howling rainstorm with my brand-new 7D) I have to hope that your reviews of Canon equipment under extreme conditions continues…
I’d love to see more field reviews as the emphasis, but also how-to articles with focus on working in rugged environments would be good.
Your work is great, so keep it up!
Happy New Year to you Ole!

I have to confess that your review was the main factor to set my mind on a 7D. After reading it I went ahead and bought one. I think Canon shall do something about your contribution to their sales
Also the article about the Mark IV was impressive (especially the objectiveness got me where you commented about the memory card, not being able to tell the real speed since it was glued).
Since you have such a high quality set-up in your bag and using it effectively for yours and others’ benefits I am sure the outcome must be admirable, to say the least. The few samples I have seen in the review are quiet some indications.
I’d say “please keep the reviews going and every now and then share your tips and works with us”.
Best Regards

Hello!
Found your page just now. Please do both, beautiful pictures, nice to know how you “create” them also!
Good reviews, thank you!
Happy new year!
Pål
happy new year Ole! and thank you so much for your blog. I am living for a expedition in Antarctic in 3 weeks time. I just have a 5Dm2 and feel very anxious not to mess up these wonderful photographic opportunity . All your articles to help us making better pictures are very welcome.
Martine Caillard
Hello Martine
Have a great travel to Antarctica! Your 5D Mark II should survive without problems..
BOTH!
I find it very interesting to see the extreme environments in which cameras can operate, specially when it is not MY camera that is going to the extreme. But I also like to know how you took a photograph, the settings you used, the technique and how to better use my Canon.
The photo of the 7D covered in dripping snow quite literally told more than a thousand words
What a wonderful blog! Please continue this great work I will be sure to check back regularly…
Hallo Ole, thenks for your interesting web site and great job.
I’d be interested to continue viewing “hard” test, but also I’d be glad to learn something from you work experiences and suggestion on how to better use our Canon equipement.
Thanks a lot.
I really enjoy reading your field test review and also would be glad to know how to get the better pictures!
I’m new to your blog, but find it very informative and helpful. I think both equipment reviews and “How to” reviews would be awesome.
I’m always looking for new tips and inspiration for my photography.
Thank you for providing this service.
That was not a big question at all!
It’s like asking a child in a candy
shop “Do you want one or two lollies?”
A bigger and harder question is the
one I have to answer “Do I want to
get the Canon 7D or 5D MkII and if
so can you afford it considering
photography for me is a hobby?”
But before I forget, thank you so much
for sharing your expertise and knowledge
with us. May 2010 bring you health,
happiness and adventure.
Just discovered your website. It’s refreshingly different.
I recently bought an EOS-7D camera and for information mostly relied on DPReview.com. This is a very thorough website but also very “sterile”. You do the real work I’d like to do (although less extreme).
We often go to Norway in winter (Hardangervidda, Jotunheimen and Rondane) for ski-trekkings so I’d not only like your reviews of equipment but would also appreciate very much if you would also share your tips and tricks on taking great pictures in the real wild world (with or without lots of snow).
Please continue this fascinating site with both reviews and “tutorials”.
Kind regards,
Hans Schipper
I think your equipment reviews are excellent but would enjoy listening to your thoughts and learning from your experience in the taking of the photo also. A mixture of both would be great, but most important is doing what you love, the fruit of that will always shine through.
love ya, earl
Ole,
I selfishly hope you find the time to publish articles on both topics – field reviews and “how-to” techniques. Your website is the one I visit most and I believe it is fantastic. Frankly, Canon should provide you with a stipend of some kind as I do not believe they have a better spokesperson.
Thank you very much for sharing your insight on photography and equipment (and I look forward to the publication of your book in English this summer).
Regards,
David
Hi Ole,
I’m new here and I’m very happy to have found your web site. I take pictures with the 1D Mark III and 7D. What I like is a mix of great pictures and the information how to create such pictures and maybe a bit of testing camera equipment.
There are a lot of “testing” web sites on the internet but they don’t test under “hard” conditions like you do.
So, keep up the good work!!!
Thanks!
Claudia
PS. I love the video with your dog jumping in the snow!!!
For myself, i find both field reviews of Canon cameras and equipment, and information about how to use the equipment for creating better pictures very useful. I don’t care about the video part, I’ll buy a video camera if i want to shoot video’s. They should make that an option. I wouldn’t mind having that choice. 1D Mark IV DSLR and 1D Mark IV DVSLR
Hello,
I found this site a few weeks when the 7D came.
Your reviews are one of the best, because you show us how certain cameras are on the field, not when shooting indoor stuff or damn walls. I can shoot a wall with my phone.
Your 1D Mark IV review was one of the first, and very good.
Keep up with both, photos and testing.
Damn slow internet.
I meant a few days after the 7D came. So, it means that many of us found you because of your reviews
Both, please – I have really enjoyed your photography and our stries of how you made your wonderful pictures as well as your reports on use of Canon cameras under extreme conditions.
Best regards,
Mike
Hi, Ole! Your reviews are simply great — beyond words! If I could shoot like you, I would!!
Anyway, I am a happy new owner of a 7D, and would really love to learn a thing (or two — at least) from you about optimizing the technology behind the power of 7D, especially in terms of (a mixture of) settings.
Thank you & best regards!

Definitely post both. I love your shots and would welcome the addition of more tutorial and tip based posts. GREAT blog. Keep up the good work!
Simply and absolutely loved your review of the 7D based upon using it in the real cold-climate world! I would encourage you to present it as YOU wish it to be, drawing energy from the love of enjoyment you feel when sharing your experiences with us. This way, you continue to find what pleases you most in your quest for the best tools to be used for your passion with the energy that it creates passed to us the readers in colorfully written word and dramatic photo images.
